I have been artistic in one way or another all my life. Growing up in a creative family fueled my desire towards being an artist. I moved to Santa Cruz, CA from Detroit, MI in 2009, I needed a creative outlet and started volunteering at a local Clay Studio where I created many hand built ceramic vessels and fun sculptures. From there, I stumbled into sewing and started a handbag line under the name Mackerilla Design. After many years of sewing my bag designs, (which I currently still sell sewing patterns of my designs on ETSY and through a few online retailers) I wanted to get back to being an artist and started painting in 2014. Since I am passionate about animals and volunteer for rescues, painting dogs and cats in acrylic paint on canvas would be my subjects of choice! But I do love to paint all other living creatures as well as a few humans here and there! My approach is to capture the animal’s essence through the look in their eyes. To show their vulnerability and love for their humans. I truly love painting and have so many ideas continuously swirling in my head! I feel I am still learning and growing. I am looking forward to my future to see my progression as being an artist. -Janice Serilla

  1. I think I’ll try to make this. My daughter’s dog “leaks” when he sleeps on soft surfaces. It wouldn’t be an issue, if he didn’t enjoy the sofa :-D.
    Thank you!

  2. I have a small yorkie , who is so cute he gets by with murder. However we are having a pee pee problem. so I am so glad to see
y our website. Thank you for the free pattern. Viola

  3. Wouldn’t sewing through through the batting to the outer layer leave areas for pee to escape? I was thinking of making these, but stitching the batting to the cotton first, then using some duck or twill for the outside to avoid seepage. I check them constantly when I’m home, but the minute I leave the house I swear they pee in the ones they have now (store bought, but I really would like more without paying their price).

    1. You could use a thick pile fleece for the inside.
I actually slap on a maxi pad on it so it’s even thicker. It worked well for my foster dog. Then I didn’t have to wash the belly bands so much cause the maxi pad only got soiled

  4. Thank you for the instructions. We are dog sitting for my girlfriends’ male dog and he marks his territory. We are going to try using these to keep my house smelling better.

  5. I would like to make them for a fundraiser for a local shelter. What length should I start at. and how long do you go?

    1. Awesome! You could make 3 sizes and add a little more length and more velcro to be adjustable.
I would measure a small, medium and large dogs girth and use their measurements and maybe add a fee inches extra and velcro so it can adjust for fit.
