I always like to remind everyone who has pets to keep them inside and safe during the 4th. Where we live it’s like a war zone sometimes during this festive time. Lots of crazy fireworks all over the place. Since it is a beach town we have loads of tourists that come to Santa Cruz to hang on our beaches and go nuts! People bury fireworks in the sand days before and dig them up and have their own dangerous personal firework displays! It gets really really crazy!!
So with that being said and about your pets, please keep them home and indoors. Turn on the TV or music and play it loud. I put Rescue Remedy in their water bowls about a week before and call my Vet to get some doggie valium!
I also made my own version of a Thundershirt for one of our crew that pretty much loses her mind from the sparkly explosions. It breaks my heart to see her so upset. So we hope this will work on her along with taking meds and drinking calming water.
Candy modeling her orange is the new black straight jacket!
SO PLEASE!! Enjoy the 4th and keep your furkids safe!
Oh! And please don’t ask me if I sell these for other doggies. I did and got a cease and desist note from the people of Thundershirt! Even though mine is not the same, they still were crabby that I made a few of them…………………………

Are you still looking for ideas for gifts? Are you crafty? Can you Sew?
Well homemade gifts are always fun for me! I like to make simple gifts for friends, neighbors, postman, favorite shop owners, etc……………
Something like a nice Santa or Snowman adorned cookie bag, stocking or handpainted tin or a box and fill with your favorite cookies.
Simple gifts that can be used every day like soaps, oven mitts, knitted caps are always a daily reminder to the gift receiver of how wonderful you are! 😉
Most of my Mackerilla sewing patterns are pretty easy to make. So you could make up some wine totes and journal bags? Or make up some of my Tote styles and give them to your people on your holiday list. Their is still lots of time to make these items and more! 🙂
For other Mackerilla Bag designs, check out my ETSY page for what Sewing Patterns are available! Also I have some of my little zip pouches , kids caps and more up for sale!
Also you can contact me and see what else I have. I have loads of totes in many sizes available that I have not posted online. Price ranging from $34-$58
Why buy some pre quilted cotton fabric when you can make your own!
I have a bunch of fat quarters just waiting to be made into some bags! Too light and soft for exteriors of the bags so I slapped on some batting to the backside and quilted a diamond pattern on top! Then created some cute little zip pouches! Fun, fun, fun!
Make a pet bed out of scrap fabric and an old comforter. I measured out 32″ long by 18″ wide two pieces of ultra suede. Then measured out 4″ wide strips of some upholstery fabric for the sides. Sewed it all up leaving a wide opening in one long end. Then laid it on top of an old comforter and kept cutting out pieces to the thickness desired. Or until you run out of comforter!
Then I stacked all the comforter pieces and carefully placed them inside the sewn cover. Then stitch up the opening. Then with a big monster sewing needle I put the pompoms on with buttons on the bottom side of the cushion. It took me an hour! Easy peasy!
Make one for your pet today! 🙂
